HERE AT FAIRWAY DENTAL CARE, WE CARE ABOUT EVERY aspect of your oral health. Unfortunately, no matter how careful we may be, sometimes life hands us emergencies, so let’s talk about Dr. Falter‘s tips for dental emergencies…

Although it might not seem like a big deal, a dental injury to your teeth or gums can be potentially serious with risks of more permanent damage and expensive repair down the road, so don’t ignore it!

Here are some of our team’s thoughts about common emergencies:

Toothache?

Rinse your mouth out with warm water and check to see if anything is lodged. Apply an ice pack if needed to reduce the swelling, and call us as soon as you can…we probably need to take a look.

Chipped & Broken Tooth?

Although it may sound unappealing, save the pieces of the tooth if you can and apply gauze pressure if you’re bleeding. Come in and see us.

A Knocked Out Tooth?

“Time is of the essence” in trying to save a tooth. (watch the video below)

A Dislodged Tooth?

A cold compress can help if there’s pain. If needed, over-the-counter pain relievers can be taken as well. Give us a call and come in to see us right away.

Something Caught Between Your Teeth?

First give dental floss a try, but never use a sharp object. If you can’t dislodge it, call us right away.

Lose A Filling?

Until you are able to come see us, you can actually stick a piece of sugarless chewing gum into the hole. Then, give us a call!

Lost A Crown?

Come in as soon as you can, and bring the crown! In the meantime, you can try to slip the crown back in, or use a cotton swab to apply some clove oil to the sensitive area.

Broken Braces Wires?

If you have a wire that’s sticking out and poking you, try using the eraser end of a pencil to push it back into a comfortable position. If it won’t move, cover it with orthodontic wax or a piece of gauze until you can visit us or your orthodontist. Don’t cut the wire! You could end up swallowing it or even breathing it in.
